Brentford favourite and leading goalscorer Ollie Watkins has explained that his folded arms celebration stemmed from scoring for Exeter in the Devon derby against Plymouth.

The folded arms celebration has become a regular sight at Brentford games in recent weeks, including in the 3-2 win over Preston on Saturday, with the forward the club's top goalscorer.

And he admitted that it all stemmed from being able to help Exeter put the Pilgrims in their place.

“When I scored agaisnt Plymouth late on in the derby I did it and I've done it ever since. You see (Romelu) Lukaku and (Kyllian) Mbappe do it,” he explained ahead of the game.

Ollie Watkins celebrates his goal

“It was nice to stick one over the rivals. There was always an argument about the team in Devon. It was nice to score in the derby.”

You can take Watkins out of Exeter but you can't take Exeter out of Watkins and he still has a great affinity to the city.

“Exeter is quite quiet compared to London but they're two lovely places and I enjoy being up he. It's always nice to go back.”
