Lasse Vibe reckons his opener in Brentford's 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest yesterday was the most important goal he has scored for the club.

Vibe's strike, his eighth for the Bees, was his first since before Christmas, and the first by a Brentford striker since Philipp Hofmann scored at Birmingham three months ago.

More important than ending that drought, however, was the fact that his goal lay the foundations for a first win in five, and brought to an end a four-game losing streak for the Bees.

Vibe said: “It was a relief to score again, but the most relieving part is it was an important goal as we haven't won that many games lately. To be on such a bad run as we have and then score, it was probably my most important goal.

Making a point: Vibe gets that winning feeling again

“It made me really happy, and I told the ref when he tried to make me run back to let me enjoy it, as it's been a while. We're all really happy in the dressing room, but we need to take it on and do the same on Tuesday, otherwise we're back to the same feeling in the dressing room again.

“I've been on bad runs before with other clubs and with my country, and it's always the same. You're trying hard to work your way out of it, staying out longer in training, but there's no different way.

“It's frustrating waiting for that win, and for those small marginals to go your way. Against Blackburn, we played a solid game, but didn't have the marginals. Today, we had them.”

Vibe admits being called up by new Denmark boss Age Hareide during the recent international break did him the world of good, and has helped him get some confidence back.

International duty: Vibe in action for Denmark

He said: “It was really exciting. Everyone was trying to show their best to the new manager, and the sessions were really intense.

“Going in and showing what I can do gave me confidence, and I tried to show today – that I'm back and have got my confidence back. Maybe that made a big difference, being away.”

With Philipp Hofmann nursing a back injury, Marco Djuricin recovering from illness, Scott Hogan being eased back in slowly and Leandro Rodriguez coming off yesterday with a hamstring pull, Brentford will need Vibe to keep firing on all cylinders.

He said: “We've gone from having five strikers in the squad to one in the space of a week! I prefer to play in a squad with other strikers, as you then play because you're the best. It's nice to have that competition, and have someone to put pressure on you.”

Added pressure: Philipp Hofmann's injury means Vibe's goals are needed more than ever

The three points earned yesterday moved Brentford nine points clear of the Championship drop zone, but Vibe echoed Bees boss Dean Smith's sentiments that there can be no resting on laurels.

He added: “We can't just sit back and wait to see what the other teams do, we need a couple more wins at least. We want to finish the season on a run and in good spirits. We want to go off for two months high on confidence, and you only do that by picking up points.

“We need clean sheets and goals. The defenders have to take care of the clean sheets and we have to take care of the goals – which we haven't been for a while, including me personally – so that is the focus.”
