Sergi Canos is fit and firing once again and he is desperate to be back in Brentford first team action against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Spaniard played 65 minutes for the B team in their 3-0 loss to QPR on Tuesday night as he stepped up his recovery from an ankle injury picked up in pre-season.

His absence has been felt with Brentford making a slow start to the season, picking up two points from five games. The mood at Griffin Park amongst the supporters had soured further following the departures of Harlee Dean, Jota and Maxime Colin to Birmingham in the last 36 hours of the transfer window.

Despite that, Canos insisted that the Bees still have a strong team full of players that will give 100 per cent for the badge.

“It was frustrating I couldn't help but hopefully now it's gone and I can be back for Aston Villa,” he said.

“It's going to be difficult as is every game. We've got a strong team, even after what happened last week.

“We've got a really good team. A lot of players that did well last year are still here and we'll fight for the club and the supporters.”

The ankle injury was the first serious blow Canos has had in his playing career and he was desperate to get back to full fitness as quickly as possible.

He said: “It's my first experience being injured. I was out for three weeks. You can't count that as an injury.

“This hurt me and I missed four weeks and quite a bit of football. The physios knew that. Daryl (Martin) was with me every day and held me in. I wanted to go back the second week already.”

It was clear right from the off against QPR U23 that Canos was desperate to prove his match readiness, treating the friendly as if it was the World Cup final.

“Everything is important and this game was important for the B team and when you go down you have to show why you're up with the first team. I tried to give my best and enjoy the game,” he explained.

“I'm happy with the run out. I'm not happy about the result but it was good to be back and enjoy playing again.”
