Dean Smith believes Ryan Woods will be working out what is his preferred position; holding midfielder or playing in a more advanced role.

The former Shrewsbury man is one of the candidates to be named Brentford's player of the season and produced a string of excellent performance at the start of the campaign.

The 23-year-old has been virtually an ever present for the west Londoners this campaign, missing just two games, and has been used in a variety of positions.

And head coach Smith believes he has performed well in the holding role and also when he has been pushed further forward.

The Bees boss said: “He has been very good this season. He's probably wondering which is his best position whether it's the holding midfielder or higher.

“I thought he had a spell where he did really well, thinking back to the games against Brighton and Villa. He's done really well higher. He can play in a number of positions and he's done really well.”
