David Button heaped praise on Dean Smith after the Brentford head coach has overseen four wins in their last five games.

Going into the international break in March, the Bees were in freefall and glancing over their shoulder at the sides in the relegation zone.

But, after picking up 13 points from a possible 15, Brentford are now looking at the top 10 and finishing above rivals QPR and Fulham.

Button said: “It's been a great turnaround and all credit to the gaffer for the big part he's played in that.

“We've come through the difficult phase as a team and hopefully we can carry that on for the rest of the season.

“It's a good incentive for the lads to try and get into that top 10 and we'll try and achieve that. It'd be great to finish above QPR and Fulham and put us top of that west London mini table.”

Button also paid tribute to Alan Judge, who suffered a broken leg at Ipswich earlier this month, and fully expects him to be a unanimous choice for players' player of the season.

He added: “I've had a couple of messages with him to wish him all the best. Everyone was devastated for him. He knows he's going to come back and be as good as he was,” Button added.

“If anyone else votes for anyone other than Judgey then they'd be a bit stupid. He's been amazing for us this year and he deserves all the credit he's had.”
