Ollie Watkins has been backed to make it in the Premier League by Brentford head coach Dean Smith.

The summer signing from Exeter has been in the goals for the west Londoners and added to his tally from the spot against Birmingham.

The young forward has been on-form since earning a place in the starting line up and is always looking to provide more for the team, as he explained in an interview with GetWestLondon last week.

Smith said: “When I first saw him I had no doubt in my mind that he could play in the Championship, Premier League.

“Then even moreso when I met him. He's a really down to earth lad. He's got certain values and a good upbringing.

“He can progress further without a shadow of a doubt. He asks questions and wants to get better.

“He is probably his own biggest critic at times but he can get better and better. We hope he'll reach the top with Brentford but he's come in and looked comfortable straightaway.”
