Brentford are likely to bide their time when it comes to deciding whether to renew Lasse Vibe's contract.

The Dane's contract expires at the end of the 2017/18 season when the striker will be 31.

Normally, the Bees look to extend their stars' deals going into their final season but, in line with other clubs, they are likely to take it a year at a time.

Smith said on his future: “I'm not sure; that's one for the directors of football.

“I think one of the differences I'd look at with Lasse, and no disrespect to him, he's a bit older so if you look at the players who have gone into their last years when they're young so there's a particular value on them.”

Lasse Vibe

Smith has always been a fan of Vibe, calling him the Championship's Jamie Vardy after his first game in charge, and believes the striker is fantastic to work with.

He added: “I watched him against Bolton and thought he did really well away and he was terrific against MK Dons.

“I didn't know a lot about him before I came but he's terrific to work with. He thinks a lot about the game and makes intelligent runs. He's done what I expect him to do.”
