Romaine Sawyers believes Brentford have proven they have great strength in depth after going eight games unbeaten.

The Bees have seen Rico Henry suffer a serious knee injury, while John Egan, Andreas Bjelland, Henrik Dalsgaard and Nico Yennaris have suffered blows to the head in the past six weeks.

Dalsgaard was forced off with a heel injury with Yoann Barbet coming on at left back in the 2-0 win at Birmingham on Wednesday.

He said: “I think it shows the depth that we've got. We've always got belief. Players are ready to step in.

“Yoann has been disappointed that he's been out of the team but he came on and did well. Everyone knows their job. We all want to move in the right direction and we're showing it.”

Sawyers knew that Brentford fans were keen to get one over their old heroes Harlee Dean, Jota and Maxime Colin and he was pleased to see them, even more so in the wake of victory.

He added: “It was nice to see a few faces. We had a tight-knit group when they were there. We've stayed in touch. We came here to do the job but it was nice to catch up after.”
