They may have only joined the club in the summer but Romaine Sawyers and John Egan are the FIFA kings at Brentford.

The squad had a tournament during their pre-season training camp in Germany and the pair emerged as victors.

And it also allowed Sawyers and Egan to bond as a pair, despite being on opposite sides last season.

Sawyers said: “We had a FIFA tournament in pairs and my partner was John Egan which was good. I played against him last year but I didn't know him.

“Little things like that bring us together. It's easier to do it Germany where we're together 24/7 whereas now we'll have the afternoon off and go our separate ways.

“We won both of them so we're the reigning champions. It was a good standard. It was very decent. We had random pairs and then we had random teams.

“We had four pairs; three had top four teams and then Nico and Kersch got Norwich so there was a bit of a bypass in that sense.

“No disrespect to Norwich but it was a bit of a bypass when we were playing with Chelsea, City and Arsenal. It was good.”

The singles champion is yet to be discovered but Egan and Sawyers are looking to hold onto their crown at Griffin Park for as long as possible.

Egan added: “We'll take that tag of FIFA king. We've not played solo yet. We'll play together as a team until we get beaten but it'll take a while as we were pretty good.”
