Brentford midfielder Ryan Woods will be a keen spectator as his former club Shrewsbury host Manchester United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The Shrews have been struggling in League One and find themselves in the relegation zone after winning promotion from League Two last season.

And Woods is hoping his former side can upset the odds and send the Red Devils crashing out of the FA Cup and escape the clutches of relegation.

The Brentford man said: “I'm wishing them all the best. I've been back a couple of times to watch a couple of games.

“They're having a bit of a tough time in the league but they're on a very good cup run again and, hopefully, they can shock a few people and progress to the sixth round.

“But the best thing for them would be to remain in League One and keep pushing on from there.”

He added: “I speak to a few of the lads and the physio and a few others. I'm really good mates with all of them and I wish them all the best.”
