Manager Dean Smith bemoaned his side's bad luck after Brentford went down to an unfortunate home defeat to Birmingham City this afternoon.

The Bees dominated for long spells, and aside from Scott Hogan's goal, did everything but put the ball in the back of the net.

Lasse Vibe missed a goal line sitter, Sully Kaikai hit the bar and Brum keeper Tomasz Kuszczak made a couple of outstanding saves, and when Andreas Bjelland did hit the onion bag, he was flagged offside.

Smith said: “I feel frustrated and disappointed because we know we've played really well against a team in the top five at the moment. We absolutely dominated the game, and if it was a boxing match it would have been called off.

“But football matches especially in the Championship change on small moments. A loose pass from Woodsy, a loose touch from Nico, Romaine slips and they get in for a penalty, but I thought our reaction to that was really good.

“We passed the ball well and created chances, our problem was we didn't take them today. We're judged on results, but the stats in today's game will favour us. If we played Birmingham 10 times and played like that, we would win nine of them,

“It's very hard to go into the dressing room after a performance like that ends in a defeat, because what do you say to the players? You want them to keep playing like that but you want to cut out the mistakes.

“But the Championship is a tough league, and we've had two games where we should be sat here six points richer. It's just one of those games where we didn't take our chances. It's when you're not creating anything you have to be worried.”
