Brentford head coach Dean Smith is looking to take advantage of the nervousness around Leeds United at the moment.

Thomas Christiansen has said that Saturday's contest is a must win in the wake of his side's loss at home to Derby.

“We need the win on Saturday against Brentford,” he said. “That is sure. It cannot go on like this.”

Smith, though, sees that as added pressure and would be keen for his side to grab an early goal and apply more pressure to the under fire Dane.

The head coach said: “We can possibly exploit it. You read comments that it's a must win game for them.

“You see comments like that you feel there's an added pressure. Certainly, if we can get an early goal it may put pressure on them early.

Joy for Brentford after Neal Maupay's second, despair for Birmingham

“We're aware of their run but our focus is on ourselves. We respect the opposition but we don't fear them.

“We'll focus on how we want to play. Sometimes you have to adjust as we wanted to play past the press against Preston.”

Only Birmingham and Sunderland have parted company with their managers so far this season and Smith believes that is because of the even nature of the league.

He explained: “I think that might be because it's more of an even league as anyone can win on a given day.

“There haven't been major losing runs. Bolton had a tough start but they've won a game and come out of it.

“It's crazy the chosen profession that you go into. I look at it in a different way. The clubs I've worked for are fairly stable.

“Leyton Orient with Barry Hearn and Walsall with Jeff Bonser. I find that same stability here.”
