Brentford will use their home pre-season fixtures to the test goal line technology in a live event.

While these checks will be done at installation in the first two weeks of July, there is nothing like seeing the real thing in action.

And the home fixtures will provide a perfect opportunity for the system to have any potential flaws ironed out ahead of the new campaign.

Chief executive Mark Devlin said: “It'll be tested in pre-season. We'll use our pre-season friendlies to test the system out.

“It's not so crucial in a friendly as it gives you a couple of games to make sure the equipment is up and running and giving the correct decisions.

“The system will be live. It'll obviously be thoroughly tested when the system is installed but we'll use the pre-season games that we have at Griffin Park to test it in match circumstances.”

Referee Craig Pawson tests out the goal line technology before the game

Brentford did contribute to the installation costs and Devlin believes it will add to the game, while taking the pressure off referees and assistants.

He said: “I think we all welcome goal-line technology as any assistance we can give the referees. At the end of the day, we want consistency and correct decisions.

“Anything we can do to assist the officials and the clubs have agreed to contribute to the cost of that.

“It's good that it's come down to the Championship. In many ways the Premier League is no more important than League Two and I think we'll see it go down through the divisions.”
