Jack Bonham admits he is in limbo at Brentford – unlikely to play unless Dan Bentley gets injured or suspended, but not allowed to go out on loan either.

The former Watford stopper has managed only six first team games in four years with the Bees, and stayed down the pecking order despite David Button's departure last summer due to Bentley's arrival.

B team keeper Dominic Kurasik has even made the bench ahead of him on occasion this season, but the club have blocked any loan move as they want Bonham to stay as Bentley's back up.

He said: “It's been frustrating once again not being able to go out on loan. I've asked a few times to go out on loan but it's not right for the club at the moment.

Rival for the shirt: Daniel Bentley

“I'm not sure what the situation is really, I think they want me to stay and fight for the shirt. It's not ideal, but I'll keep plugging away and see what happens.

“In terms of my development, not playing for a few years is not the best, but if it's what the club wants then it is what it is.

“Dan has come in and done really well, so you can't fault him really. I'll just keep my head down and if something comes up, whether going out on loan or being needed here, I'll be ready.”

As if to accentuate Bonham's bad luck, he was sidelined for a few weeks back in November after being involved in a car crash , but was left counting his blessings that it wasn't worse.

Should Brentford send Jack Bonham out on loan?

He added: “It was after the QPR game , someone went into the back of me, so I had a few weeks out with whiplash and concussion.

“It could have been worse. It happened quickly and was all a bit of a flash, but I was lucky to come out of it as well as I did.

“At the time I was pretty shocked, but I was lucky that Harlee Dean was driving past and stopped and stayed with me.”
