Brentford are hoping and praying that stricken striker Scott Hogan has suffered nothing more serious than a twisted knee.

The summer signing from Rochdale, making only his second Bees appearance since recovering from another injury off the bench at Rotherham yesterday, went down in a heap 10 minutes from the end after turning to close down the keeper.

After a long delay which led to eight minutes of injury time at The New York Stadium, Hogan was stretchered off, but there were good signs when he later left the stadium independently, albeit with the help of crutches.

Bees boss Mark Warburton said: “I don't know what happened to him yet, hopefully it's just a twisted knee. He's with our medical team, they will look after him and we will assess it from there.”

Hogan's team-mates, who had watched in horror as he went down, were also full of concern for the 22-year-old.

Defender James Tarkowski said: “We're all a little bit down because it didn't look great. We're gutted for Scott as he had worked so hard to come back from his last injury,

Midfielder Alan Judge added: “ He's been unfortunate. It's not a good thing to see, and we've got our fingers crossed for some good news.”
