Brentford FC boss Andy Scott insists Sam Williams will not be fazed by the miss which robbed him of a dream debut against Barnet.

Aston Villa loanee Williams, who only met his new team-mates an hour before the game, found himself one-on-one with Barnet keeper Jake Cole with only a few minutes remaining, but lifted his shot over.

However, Scott said: "That won't affect Sam, that's the sort of character he is.

"That's why I tried to get him in August, when Villa said no as he was close to breaking into the first team, and again in January, when Walsall beat me to it."

Brentford won 1-0 thanks to Marcus Bean's first-half header in a game which marked Gary Smith's return from a long-term ankle injury.

And Williams, who signed for the Bees for a month on Monday, saw enough to convince him he wants to stay longer.

He said: "I'd extend it if I could. If you're coming to a team that's top of the league you can't get any better than that.

"My contract at Villa ends in the summer. I don't know what's going to happen. At the minute I just want to play as many games as possible."
