Brentford will find out on Monday the extent of Sergi Canos' ankle injury that he picked up at Aston Villa.

The Spaniard, returning from a twisted ankle, suffered the same fate at Villa Park in the first half and was clearly devastated at being forced off the pitch.

The Bees will assess the damage once the swelling has gone down before the medical team work to return him to full fitness and prevent him from causing further harm with his eagerness to get back.

“We're waiting for the swelling going down. I think he's seeing the consultant on Monday,” Smith said.

“He's naturally disappointed. It will take a couple of days to get over it but then you have to concentrate on your rehabilitation and treatment to get fit again.

“Last time, I've never seen anyone so determined to get back. I'm sure the medical staff will echo my sentiments.

“They had to hold the reins on him a bit. He was annoyed with me that he didn't get on against Wolves but he's a young lad who has a bright future ahead of him so we need to make sure he gets back right.”
