Lee Carsley is excited by the potential of Josh Laurent and is looking to see the Brentford youngster kick on.

The Bees signed the 19-year-old from west London rivals QPR, much to the frustration of Rangers fans who wanted to see young players coming through.

Laurent impressed straight away but has also taken time adjusting to the move and Carsley is keen for him to improve.

The development squad boss said: “He's been very good. He hit the ground running when first came in. He's levelled off a bit and I'm looking for him to go again.

“A lot has happened as he's left a club and thrust into another. He's moved out of his house.

“A lot of things have happened so it's just giving him that breathing space and platform to go again and go and perform. He'll be a name you'll hear a lot about next season.”

Carsley has had to be a father figure, to a point, for his squad with young players trying to make their way in the game.

He added: “It's more about the lifestyle choices and what they do off the pitch. There are a lot more distractions than when I was coming through.

“As a whole, we've got some excellent players on and off the pitch. We've got good all-round people which is important.

“Not all of them will make it and they'll have to get jobs so they need a work-ethic and attitude to adjust to the real world.”
