Dean Smith believes this Brentford squad deserve to overhaul the points tally achieved last season.

The Bees finished with 65 points last term and victory over Blackburn would see that total beaten by two points. That could be good enough for eighth place if Derby lose at Rotherham and Norwich fail to beat QPR.

And the head coach believes that his side have been improving on the pitch and knows that, for outsiders to notice progress, it needs to be reflected in the league table.

Smith said: “It was something we put into their heads 10 games ago. We wanted to overhaul the tally if we could and we've fought to do that. Our performances have been excellent and they deserve to.

“Although we know there's been real progress made people from the outside don't see the work that goes on and they see league standings and points.

“To progress for a lot of people, they'll need to see the tally overhauled. We know there's been progress at the club.”
