Brentford defender Yoann Barbet has vowed to bounce back from the disappointment of his first ever red card.

Barbet was sent off just five minutes into the game at Hillsborough on Saturday, knocking the stuffing out a bright start for the Bees, who went on to lose 4-0 to hosts Sheffield Wednesday.

With Brentford unlikely to appeal the decision, Barbet will now miss the home game against Derby this Saturday as he sits out a one-match ban.

Harsh decision: Barbet looks on, after being sent off

It will be harsh on the Frenchman, who hadn't done much wrong after fighting his way back into side in recent weeks following four months on the sidelines.

He said: “It is very frustrating. I had a good feeling during the three games (that he was back in the side). I think I have done well, but the ref undid all my good work.

“It was the first red card of my career. If I take a red card I would prefer it was justified, but he sent me off for nothing. But I came back before, and I will come back again.

“There is no fault, my mistake was before (letting Hooper get goal-side). But the ref's made the decision and it's killed the game.

“He just fell over because he lost the ball, and the ref was 40 yards away. Maybe my hand was on his shoulder, but that didn't make him fall down.

“It was a tough decision. I am frustrated for the team and for the gaffer because today was a very important game, and after about five minutes the game was killed.”
