Harlee Dean will be hoping to stake a claim for a regular starting spot when Brentford take on Dagenham tonight.
The Bees defender is back to fitness after going under the knife to fix a niggling abdominal problem that restricted him to 33 appearances last season.
James Tarkowski was paired alongside captain Tony Craig for Saturday's Championship opener against Charlton, but Dean is likely to come into the side at Victoria Road as boss Mark Warburton rotates his squad for the Capital One Cup clash.
And the former Southampton centre-back is determined to force his way back into the starting XI after putting his injury problems behind him.
He said: "I feel 100 per cent fit again after my injury and it's just about getting back to the level I was at the season before.
"It's a new challenge but I'm ready to rise to it and hopefully set a new standard.
"I got injured in November and from then onwards I was struggling and probably didn't deserve to play. But when I was needed I was there to step in and now I'm pushing for a start.
"There's a lot of competition for places and that's the way football should be. We'll all be pushing eachother for the shirt, and when you've got it you need to try and keep it."
