Dean Smith believes that this Brentford side travelling to Norwich are better than the one that was beaten 5-0 there last year.

The Bees produced their worst performance in many a year to return from Norfolk with nothing but embarrassment.

And Smith believes it was a turning point in the season, with a dressing room row helping to resolve matters.

He said: “You look back at it and it could have turned out to be a turning point. We know we were poor there.

“We don't normally do a debrief in the dressing room but we did there. That was a one off game and we haven't seen one of those again.

“In a year, we've become a very consistent team and probably don't have the points tally we would like.”

Reports are suggesting that Daniel Farke is facing a dressing room revolt at Carrow Road and Smith does feel that they haven't lived up to the high expectations that come with parachute payments.

He added: “I think there always will be for teams on parachute payments. Clubs that come down from the Premier League know that the expectation to get back within that is paramount.

“They have players earning money from the Premier League days. They've probably not hit the heights of expectations at the start of the season.”

Norwich and Brentford, though, both deserve credit for making the contest as cheap as possible for supporters. The Canaries have made it £10 for an advance adult ticket with the Bees laying on free coaches.

Smith explained: “I think it's a credit to both football clubs. I know when the decision came about there were eyebrows raised.

“It gives all supporters a chance to do their shopping and be with their families. Norwich have reduced the prices.

“We've put on free coaches and that's how it should be. Both teams get an extra day's rest.”
