Marinus Dijkhuizen wants more than one striker to replace Andre Gray – but has no idea how long it will take to get them in.

The Brentford boss has already said he hopes for four new faces in before the transfer window slams shut in a week's time and has since lost Gray to Burnley, making the need for reinforcements even more pressing.

He has now been left with just summer signings Philipp Hofmann and Lasse Vibe as fit front men, with the long-term injured Scott Hogan not expected to feature until next year.

Dijkhuizen said: “Yes, we need more than one striker. It is difficult to say (when some new faces will arrive). Sometimes they are a day away, sometimes two weeks. It's not part of my job now, and I'm happy not to have to deal with it, and with agents.”

In the meantime, it will mean his two remaining strikers stepping up to the plate, and while Vibe showed some useful touches in Saturday's 1-0 loss at Burnley, Hofmann struggled, but at least got off the mark at Bristol City last week.

Dijkhuizen said: “They can learn fast now. They are both good players, for sure.”

Learning curve: Marinus Dijkhuizen

The Dutchman has had something of a baptism of fire at Brentford, seeing Gray, Moses Odubajo, Stuart Dallas and Jonathan Douglas leave over the past few weeks, while Jota, Josh McEachran and Andreas Bjelland have joined Hogan on the long-term injured list.

To add to his woes, the Bees have had to have their entire pitch relaid, leading to the postponment of last week's game against Birmingham City.

He added: “No, I've never had anything like this before, but it is good for my experience. It will be a good learning curve.”
