Dean Smith believes there has been a marked improvement in goalkeeper Dan Bentley, especially with the ball at his feet.

The Brentford shot-stopper has had an impressive first season in the Championship, keeping 13 clean sheets over the course of the season.

But goalkeeping is no longer about keeping the ball out of the net with clubs preferring 'sweeper keepers' like Bayern Munich ace Manuel Neuer.

Bentley has been working to improve in that area of his game and that is something that Smith has appreciated.

The head coach said: “Dan has been excellent. He'll say he wants to get rid of some of the errors he's made in the season.

“There's a marked improvement in Dan certainly with his feet. He's a lot more composed on the ball.

“If you look at him at the start of the season to where he is now showing his quality.

“He, and the players, are looking to improve all the time and have a development plan (to get even better).
