Dean Smith believes he has a leader in summer signing Kamohelo Mokotjo and sees the Brentford new boy as an excellent signing for the club.

The South Africa international agreed a three year deal and moves to Griffin Park from FC Twente.

And the fact that the Dutch side gave him the nickname of the General showed Smith the sort of character the midfielder is.

He said: “I think you only have to look at his nickname at FC Twente – the General – and you don't get that unless you're a good player.

New Bee: Kamohelo Mokotjo

“He's a leader. He's very personable. He's a good character, wins the ball and is very good on the ball and covers the ground really well.

“For me, he ticks all the boxes and he puts pressure on players. I said we were going to work the players hard, test their limits and see where they can go.

“It's great competition for places at the moment which is what we need to compete.”
