Brentford head coach Dean Smith has advised Sergi Canos to not let a miss affect him so much as he describes the Liverpool youngster as 'a breath of fresh air'.

The forward has been included in Spain U19's squad for their European Championship qualifiers.

They face Greece on Thursday night before taking on Georgia on Saturday before finishing against England on Tuesday March 29.

Smith is excited at the prospect but would like to see the Liverpool loanee not to let misses get him down.

The Brentford head coach said: “It shows what a good player he is. He's only a young lad and still learning the game.

“He's a breath of fresh air around the place. He's still learning and still will be. Thankfully it's not the 12-14 hour journey (it was last time); it's down to sunny Sevilla.”

Canos has been unable to have the impact on recent games that he would like but Smith prefers to encourage the young Spaniard.

He added: “He gets very frustrated with himself. He missed the chance against Charlton and he takes it on himself that it's cost us.

“We keep telling him it's one thing in a game and it happens; he needs to keep on doing the right things.”

The 19-year-old has scored four goals in 30 games, including a goal of the season contender at Reading in December.
