Character: Henrik Dalsgaard

Dean Smith praised his side's resilience following this afternoon's character-building win over Millwall at Griffin Park.

Having been the better side for large parts of the game, the Bees had to withstand some intense late Millwall pressure to secure a first home win of the season.

Once Dan Bentley had saved Lee Gregory's spot kick, every man in red and white threw their body on the line to ensure the points stayed the right side of London.

“Our character has never been in question for me, and it’s nice to get the first win at home, which we can use as a springboard,” said Smith.

“To be honest, the last 30 minutes today were as bad as we’ve played this season. When we scored we got too emotionally involved in the battle and gave away a lot of silly free kicks.

“A lot shouldn’t have been given, but we also created a lot of good chances that would have killed the game off if a second went in.”

Epitomising the spirit showed by the Bees was right back Henrik Dalsgaard, who, along with team-mate Kamohelo Mokotjo, had been laid low by a bug all week.

If Dalsgaard has not been passed as fit, Brentford's best option at right back would have been Josh Clarke, who was required at left back in Rico Henry's absence.

“Henrik Dalsgaard only trained 20 minutes as he had a sickness bug all week, but he turned in the kind of performance that says a lot about the spirit, commitment and desire we have in the squad,” Smith added.
