Dean Smith was proud of his players and the character they showed after their 2-2 draw at home to Bristol City.

The Bees, who dominated for the majority of the game, had trailed to Josh Brownhill's strike before Ollie Watkins and Neal Maupay put the west Londoners in front.

However, Bobby Reid struck in the 98th minute to rescue a point that was scarcely deserved for the Robins.

That being said, the contest was overshadowed by the announcement that Ryan Woods and his partner suffered the loss of their child and the squad, along with everyone connected to the club, were devastated by the news.

“It's been secondary for a week but you have to get on with life and that's what we're doing. I'm proud of the players because the performance was outstanding,” Smith said.

“It's the most one-sided Championship game I've been involved in and how we didn't win the game, I don't know.

“I can't say anymore to the players. I was pleased with how they played. Their goalkeeper had an inspired day and we had two penalty shouts we didn't get.

“We then took the lead and didn't see the game out as well as we can. We had Josh McEachran carried off the pitch and, rather than when we're chasing at half time, we ended up with eight minutes.”

Josh McEachran is stretchered off

McEachran was stretchered off and was being given oxygen and the prognosis is unclear at this juncture.

Smith added: “I'm not sure. He felt something and they called for a stretcher. We'll find out more tomorrow. I'm not sure if he's gone to hospital.

“Tonight he looked a Premier League player. I thought he was outstanding today.”

Rico Henry was also absent from the squad but Smith is hopeful he can return to the side on Saturday.

He confirmed: “Rico pulled out of training yesterday. It's similar to an injury Josh got at Wimbledon.

“He wasn't right to play tonight. He'll be due to train on Thursday. I expect him to be pushing for selection.”
