Dean Smith will give Brentford B players a chance to shine in the first team, only if they deserve it.

The Bees can't win promotion nor suffer relegation this season and fans have wondered whether young players like Justin Shaibu and Tom Field will be given a chance to shine in the first team.

Smith's history shows that he is happy to give youth a chance but he will only select the best XI that will win him games, especially against west London rivals QPR and Fulham.

The Bees boss said: “Players deserve their places in the team and that's what we'll be looking to do.

“We'll be playing Friday-Monday over the Easter period. There'll probably be changes between the two games because the intensity of the Championship takes it out of you.

“I'm not sure too many supporters would be thanking my if I change around the team for QPR and Fulham.”

Brentford have handed the most minutes to players aged between 21 and 23 and Smith believes his side will continue to get even better with experience.

He said: “We’ve got a quality group of players, a young group of players at that.

“I’ve said it before, our captain is 25 years old and has played nearly 300 games, about 100 odd of those in the Championship.

“It shows that we’re an emerging team and if we stay together and keep playing the way we do then those losses will get less.”
