Dean Smith paid tribute to Brentford striker Lasse Vibe after his brace against Burton took his tally of goals to 11 for the season.

The Dane now has found the net on 25 occasions in 70 appearances for the Bees, despite several factors going against him during his time at the club.

The 30-year-old moved to Griffin Park in the summer of 2015 and he was in the middle of the season for Swedish side IFK Gothenburg, meaning he was worn down by the midpoint of the last campaign.

He found form in April last year, after the March international break, to finish with 14 goals but found himself down the pecking order up front given the form of Scott Hogan.

Vibe started the season in Rio with the Danish Olympic team and returned to Griffin Park in a position where he was playing behind Hogan, while he suffered an injury in the 0-0 draw with Wigan.

Lasse Vibe

Since January, when Hogan was subject of intense transfer interest before joining Aston Villa, Vibe has led the line when fit and has scored nine goals.

“I've got to give a special mention to Lasse. He worked his socks off and deserved his goals,” Smith said.

“I said when I first came in. I'd seen him against Bolton and our first game against MK Dons and he was outstanding.

“He's got some great movement. I thought he got in behind them a number of times in the first half and deserved his goals.”

The Bees head coach also paid the ultimate compliment he could give to the in-form Vibe.

Smith added: “I'm a former centre half myself and I wouldn't want to mark him.”
