Mark Warburton has warned his Brentford stars to think twice before leaving Griffin Park.

Adam Forshaw quit the Bees for Wigan Athletic during the last transfer window, but the move didn't work out and he was sold to Middlesbrough earlier this week after just six months at the DW Stadium.

The midfielder could face his old team-mates when he returns to TW8 for the first time on Saturday, and boss Warburton has told his current crop that the grass isn't always greener.

Warning: Brentford manager Mark Warburton

He said: “You look at people who have left over the past two or three seasons. I can’t think of too many that have gone on to better things.

"It’s a good place to be. It may not be as fashionable as certain clubs, but we are moving in the right direction and making real strides. Players need to think long and hard before you leave a good environment."

Forshaw was booed by sections of Brentford fans during the goalless draw with Wigan in October and could face another frosty reception at Griffin Park.

But Warburton added: “He gave excellent service to Brentford. He’s a fantastic young professional and did exceptionally well for us.

"We were never going to let any good player go cheaply – they go on our terms - that’s why there were protracted discussions.

"It was a good deal for the club. Adam’s a great kid and is hungry to do well. Middlesbrough have got themselves a high quality player."
