Dean Smith was pleased with the way the Brentford B team players performed in the 5-1 win at Aldershot Town on Friday and knows the club have talent knocking on the door of the first team.

Reece Cole was the pick of the bunch bagging a brace while the likes of Theo Archibald, Justin Shaibu, Zain Westbrooke, Bradley Clayton, Emmanuel Onariase and Chris Mepham, playing out of position, all didn't look out of place around the first team.

They were given the opportunity with Jota, Andreas Bjelland, Romaine Sawyers and new signing Kamohelo Mokotjo all absent from the pre-season friendly.

Smith said: “It gave them an opportunity. We had a session for Jota, Andreas, Lasse, Romaine and Kamo and it gave the B team players a chance to shine.”

Reece Cole celebrates his fine goal

Smith has been observing what the B team have been doing and their training sessions are in sync with the first team.

He added: “We pretty much set out our pre-season plans in conjunction with each other. They'll go on their camp at the same time as we do.

“All of our sessions are logged and we'll go in and look at each other's session. We've got some good young players in there.

“The second year will be a test after the first went so well but it'll be difficult. The players who were here last year are better now and a few will be pushing to get into the first team squad.”
