Dean Smith heaped praise onto Josh Clarke's attitude as the young Brentford winger settles into life as a first-team player.

The 21-year-old produced a man of the match display against Reading last week, capping his performance with his first goal for the club.

Clarke has come a long way since seemingly being on his way out at Griffin Park in the early part of the year and Smith has been delighted with the youngster's attitude, although stressed there are still areas he needs to work on.

He said: “I think he's come in with a great attitude at the start of pre-season and has earned his place in the team.

“He's still learning the game. He's got to get better without the ball but his pace scares people.

“He's picking better passes and final options. That still needs work but he's working harder on the training ground.”

Clarke will be hoping to still be in the starting XI on October 15 when Brentford travel to Newcastle.
