Brentford head coach Dean Smith revealed that Sergi Canos has rolled his ankle again in the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa.
The Bees winger suffered the injury going in for a tackle and was withdrawn just after the half hour mark.
He had previously rolled the same ankle in the pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo in pre-season, which caused him to miss all the August fixtures.
Smith confirmed after the game: “He's gone over on his ankle again. He's worked to get back to fitness for this game.
“After 25 minutes he went over on his ankle but he'll show the same determination to come back this time.
“It's given Josh Clarke an opportunity and he'll be disappointed he didn't take his chance but he took on the information we wanted him to do and went on to do well again.”
Smith also insisted that Canos' enthusiasm didn't count against him as he had recovered and played B team fixtures.
He added: “I don't think he was too keen as he was on the bench against Wolves. He was fine to go.
“Once you've had one injury maybe it's one of those one that he's gone over it again and it's a bit of a weakness.”
Clarke should have scored in the second half but seemed to form a good partnership with Henrik Dalsgaard on the right flank.
Smith explained: “I feel we've got a lot of quality we can use. I had the option of Sergi Canos, Josh Clarke and Ollie Watkins who I thought played well again. We've got Flo to come back. I feel we're quite strong.”
Rico Henry was withdrawn late on with cramp.
Smith said: "It was just cramp. I thought he was outstanding today. Robert Snodgrass came on and he never gave him a sniff."
