It doesn't matter if Brentford win, lose or draw – Dean Smith will not be paying any attention to what is said on social media.

The Bees head coach has come under fire after defeats to Charlton and Rotherham in recent weeks.

While, he is aware of the criticism, Smith prefers to just keep his head down and get on with his job of trying to improve Brentford's fortunes.

He said: “I get criticism from my children so that's enough for me – I don't need to be looking at social media. You're not a human being if you're not aware of criticism.

“I've been involved in professional football for 28 years. I understand what it's about. Social media is not for me though - it never has been and never will be. People will have an opinion on what I do because it's in the public eye.”

Smith worked in difficult circumstances at Walsall and, with the Saddlers giving him time, was able to build a side capable of challenging for promotion.

And he is keen to do the same thing at Brentford but his first priority is securing a win at QPR.

He added: “I went into Walsall when they were nine points adrift and stayed up. We had to build a structure and a team there.

“I think the team that got to the play-offs last year has been very much been stripped down. A lot of people are learning.

“It's a young squad and the Championship is a tough league. I'm looking forward to Saturday and the atmosphere that we'll have.”
