Mark Warburton will tell his Brentford players to keep playing their game – even if their mistakes prove costly.

The Bees chucked away two points at home to Bolton today when, leading 2-1 with 20 minutes remaining, James Tarkowski's back pass fell short of David Button and Mark Davies stole in for an equaliser.

It's not the first time naivety at the back has cost Warburton's side this season, but this could prove to be the most costly as it leaves them three points short of the play-off places with two games left.

The Bees boss said: “Very much so (frustrating to lose two points in that fashion), but I won't tell my players not to play. You can't ask young players to play every game of the season without making a mistake.

“We made an error and we got punished. We haven't got away with it, but you can't have the best of of both worlds. We have scored goals this season from the way we play, and we have kept them out too.

“We were not at our best and we lacked a bit of quality all over the park. We were a little bit sloppy with the final ball, but not necessarily tired.”

Brentford must now realistically beat Reading and Wigan in their final two games and hope other results go their way, but Warburton is not ready to throw the towel in yet.

He added: “There are more twists and turns to come. We have to put in two performances and beat Reading and Wigan, and we have to focus on that.

“We always talk about looking back with no regrets. We take no doubts out onto the pitch and we leave it with no regrets.”
