John Egan will be putting his friendship with Scott Hogan to one side when Brentford face Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

The Bees go into the game looking for their first victory of the season and a former charge will be out to try and stop them in Hogan.

The striker left Griffin Park in January this year for Villa, coincidentally on the day the two sides met with Brentford winning 3-0.

And Egan wants his his first reunion with the Bees to be an unhappy one.

He said: “I was good pals with Scotty so if he's selected it's like another game. No matter who you're friends with it's about the three points.

“We've looked at Villa and have seen what they can do. It's like another game and we'll try and get the three points.”

Egan scored in the 1-1 draw in the west Midlands last year but he is looking for three points this time and heaped praise on the travelling Bees fans.

“I enjoyed the last minute goal last year but the main thing is the team gets the three points,” he added.

“It's fantastic. The fans are great for travelling. I'm looking forward to hearing them in full voice and they drive us on.

“The fans travel the length and breadth of the country so you want to get the three points and when you see a packed away end they can drive you on.”

There's a new face in the first team dressing room in Chris Mepham who has been promoted from the B team with the Welsh youth international vying with Egan, Andreas Bjelland and Yoann Barbet for a centre back spot.

“Meps has earned his chance. He's been brilliant in training and earned his chance to step up. We've had healthy competition at centre half and that drives you on,” the Irishman explained.

“I think every player in the squad has got their strengths. We've got players who can play in any games for us.”
