Brentford captain John Egan believes justice was done after the Bees claimed a 3-1 win over Leeds United.

The west Londoners had taken a first half lead through Neal Maupay punished an Andy Lonergan howler but were pegged back when Ezgjan Alioski headed home after a Dan Bentley mistake.

However, Yoann Barbet's free kick and Ryan Woods' fine finish gave the Bees a fully deserved victory.

“It'd have been an injustice if we hadn't won. It's happened a couple of times when we've been pegged back and we kept believing. To win the game 3-1 is very pleasing,” Egan said.

“We played really good football and could have been another goal or two up at half time. They're a good side and came back in from it and we showed our character to come back and get the win.”

Leeds have picked up a solitary point in their last four visits to Griffin Park but that hasn't stopped fans of the Yorkshire club questioning how they can lose to teams like Brentford. Indeed, they have only beaten the west Londoners once in seven attempts since the Bees' promotion to the Championship.

United may have been Champions League semi finalists at the turn of the century but their history counts for nothing as far as Egan is concerned.

He added: “Reputation counts for nothing and it goes out the window when it's 11 v 11.

“Whatever team shows up and plays the better stuff normally wins. It's how you play as a team and that's how you get the win.”

Brentford, who had picked up just four points from their first seven games, are now just four points off the play-off places after picking up 18 from their next nine.

Egan, though, believes that is now because the Bees are getting the breaks, rather than seeing their opponents suffer them.

He explained: “I think it's been a transformation in results. We deserved more in terms of results but we weren't getting the rub of the green.

“The gaffer was brilliant saying keep going and we're seeing the fruits of our labours and it's up to us to keep it up.”

The Irishman was also full of praise for the scorers Maupay, Barbet and Woods and is now looking forward to next weekend off before the trip to Cardiff.

“Neal has come in in the summer and worked very hard. He was starting and it wasn't quite going again. We've got two fantastic strikers to call upon,” he added.

“Yoann came in at left back and what a performance. He deserved his goal.

“Woodsy scoring capped off the win. When he scores it's going to be a good night.

“I'm buzzing for them and all the lads. We can recover over the next couple of weeks and get ready for Cardiff.”
