Brentford finally bagged their first home win of the season this afternoon as Romaine Sawyers scored the only goal of the game against Millwall.

The Bees midfielder netted his first league goal of the season, finding the bottom corner of the net with a low drive following some patient build up play by the Bees.

But Dean Smith's men nearly threw it all away by conceding a late spot kick, but Dan Bentley guessed right to dive to his right and keep out Lee Gregory's effort.

Here's how we rated the Bees:

Star man: Dan Bentley

Dan Bentley 9

It was about more than just the penalty save for the Bees keeper, who even before his late heroics pulled off a series of superb stops to keep his side in the game.

Henrik Dalsgaard 7

Defended well, especially at the end, when he made a couple of crucial clearances as Millwall out the pressure on. Just needs a little more end product going forward.

Josh Clarke 8

Brentford seemed to have solved their left back problem, created by the long term injury to Rico Henry, at a stroke. Clarke put a fine performance both defensively and going forward, dominating the left side with Ollie Watkins.

John Egan 7

The Bees skipper held the back line together well and made some important blocks.

Andreas Bjelland 6

Was fortunate not to have been made to pay for a mistake early on, when he robbed in possession and Lee Gregory set free, but Bentley came to the rescue. Gregory got the better of him on a few occasions, but Bjelland got better as the game went on.

Ryan Woods 8

A real battling performance from the midfield terrier who looks back to his best – these are the sort of games he thrives on.

Nico Yennaris 7

A quieter performance from Yennaris but did the simple things well and got up to support the front men.

Romaine Sawyers 8

Another cracking display from the cool-headed midfielder, who is fast becoming a key player for the Bees. Exuding calmness, he showed his lovely range of passing and capped it with a brilliant winner.

Flo Jozefzoon 6

Once again didn't quite take the opportunity to stake a claim for a regular place. Had some very good moments but drifted in and out of the game too much.

Neal Maupay 6

Another frustrating day for the Bees frontman, who was supported well by his colleagues but never really got the time and space needed from the Millwall defenders to show what he can do.

Ollie Watkins 8

Another very impressive performance from the former Exeter man, who linked up well with Clarke down the left and was a constant thorn in Millwall's side. Strong as an ox, he never hid and refused to be bullied off the ball.

Lasse Vibe 7

Made his return after two months out as a second half sub and changed the complexion of the game straight away, giving Brentford more of an outlet up front and twice going so so close to maring his comeback with a goal.

Josh McEachran 7

Just like against Derby a few weeks ago, McEachran was the right sub at the right time. Came on and helped calm things down as Millwall threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Bees in a frentic final few minutes.

Chris Mepham 6

Came on late on to shore things up but didn't have the time to make much of an impact, aside from being booked for a foul near the touchline.
