Brentford's interest in the Carabao Cup came to an end with a whimper as Norwich eased their way into round four.

Chris Mepham had a maiden start to forget as he brought down Marley Watkins in the box and Marco Vrancic made no mistake from the spot.

The Bees did come into it and were awarded a penalty of their own when Kamo Mokotjo was adjudged to be brought down in the penalty area.

Yoann Barbet stepped up and his penalty ended up in the upper tier of the Brook Road stand and it was still rising.

Norwich doubled their lead on the hour mark after Josh McEachran committed a foul on the edge of the area with Vrancic putting the ball over the wall and down into the net.

It was 3-0 and game over soon after as Josh Murphy was given the freedom of Griffin Park to race through and slide the ball under Daniels. Josh Clarke scored a late consolation.

Below are how the Bees rated on a disappointing evening for Dean Smith's side.

Luke Daniels – Nothing he could have done about the first two Norwich goals. Left exposed by his defence for the third. 6

Josh Clarke – He didn't let himself down and got himself on the scoresheet towards the end. 7

Chris Mepham – A first start to forget for the young defender, giving away the penalty and generally nervy. He'll learn from this. 5

Yoann Barbet – Perhaps he felt the pressure of being the senior defender. Seemed to hit the ball at 100mph whenever he tried to pass or shoot. His penalty is probably halfway over the Atlantic now. 4

Ilias Chatzitheodoridis – The fact the young full back was one of Brentford's leading players says it all. 7

Josh McEachran – Needs to be pushed further forward as tackling is not his strongest suit. 5

Nico Yennaris – His passing wasn't at the level he would be happy with. 5

Kamo Mokotjo – Won the penalty but needs to put himself about more in the midfield. 5

Theo Archibald – Didn't look out of place and showed flashes of class down the left flank. 7

Neal Maupay – Was isolated up front. 5

Florian Jozefzoon – He's better than he showed. 5

Substitutes

Justin Shaibu – Great bit of skill and was unlucky as his shot rattled the post. 6

Ollie Watkins – Was unable to wrestle the game back from Norwich. 6

Henrik Dalsgaard – Linked up well with Clarke when he came on. 6
