Brentford fell to a 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield and will count themselves unfortunate to come away with nothing.

A Rajiv van La Parra cross-cum-shot found the back of the net via a deflection from Harlee Dean which took the ball into Dan Bentley's elbow on it's way in.

And head coach Dean Smith felt his side were unfortunate not to get back into the game in the second half.

The Brentford boss said: “We certainly had enough chances to get something out of it. We started quite brightly but there was a spell in the first half where I thought we got too deep and looked leggy and they controlled it.

"It was a poor goal to concede, the lad’s cut inside and it clipped off Harlee Dean’s head. It’s fine margins sometimes and unfortunately that can cost you the game.

“I thought we started the second half really well – with the lead, it allowed them to look to counter us and kill the game.

"But I thought they were the better team in the first half – I’ve got no complaints about that. We gave it a go at the end and at the start of the second half, with lots of endeavour."
