As Fulham players prepare for their FA Cup fourth round replay against Sheffield United at Craven Cottage on Tuesday, we’ve found a photo from the last time the two teams met for a cup replay in west London.

This photo, taken by Monte Fresco of the Daily Mirror on February 28, 1967, shows five of the Fulham first team squad taking to the swings in a children’s playground when their training session was abandoned because the ground was frozen. The replay had already been abandoned twice before this third scheduled match.

Our older members of staff can pick out four of the five Fulham stalwarts - on the swings from left to right are Les Barrett, Allan Clarke and ‘the maestro’ Johnny Haynes. Pushing Haynes is midfielder Stan Brown but we aren’t sure about the guy pushing Les Barrett - could it be a very young Steve Earle?

If you know, email us at and we'd also love to hear your memories of the game.
