Harrow Borough have moved for Hayes & Yeading United striker Ryan Blake after discovering Simeon Akinola is likely to miss the rest of the season through injury.

Akinola, who missed Harrow’s 1-0 win at Thamesmead on Saturday has had his fair-share of fitness problems this term and a broken toe looks set to rule to speedy frontman out for the remainder of the campaign.

Reds manager Dave Anderson has wasted little time in replacing the forward and has decided to take United’s Blake, who he first sounded out about playing for Boro in the summer, on a short-term deal to fill the void left by one of his team’s most potent goal threats.

“Simeon has got a fractured toe and will probably miss the end of the season,” Anderson confirmed.

“We’ve signed Ryan Blake and he’s a similar player to Simeon – they have the same DNA and play down the middle with pace.

“We knew Simeon’s injury was going to keep him out a while and I had already spoken to Ryan in the summer before Hayes had spoken to him.

“He’ll be a good addition to the squad and hopefully we can get one other in as well but we are waiting on that at the moment.”

Akinola is just one name on Borough’s treatment table, with Anthony Page, Danny Dyer, Michael Peacock, Anthony Massiat and Steve Butterworth all struggling ahead of this weekend’s visit of Canvey Island.

“It’s quite an injury list but what we’ve proven is that our squad has a little bit of depth now,” Anderson explained.

“We’ve never had that before and when I look at the quality of the performances it tells me the squad is getting deeper. When you get an injury crisis you need a deep squad to pick up points.

“Canvey are on a great run. I’m not sure if they can make the play-offs but I’m sure they’ll tell you they probably can.

“Every game holds the same fears and same hopes in this division. Everyone is capable of beating everyone. You have to deal with it like that and take the next game as it comes, it really is true in that sense.”

Massiat’s injury is not such a huge blow to Anderson, given the defender is about to start a suspension and would have been unavailable for selection in any case.
