Gareth Ainsworth takes charge of a QPR home match for the first time as caretaker boss - and knows that a win could boost his chances of landing the job full-time.

The 35-year-old is not the favourite to take over permanantly from Iain Dowie, who was sacked on Friday last week, but he is thought to have admirers at boardroom level and could yet land his first league posting.

Ainsworth took over at short notice for the game at Reading on saturday and oversaw a 0-0 draw - the first points dropped by the Royals at the Madejski Stadium this season.

Tonight (Tuesday) he faces another big test against Championship leaders Birmingham City - who beat Rangers 1-0 at St Andrews earlier this month.

The Gazette will bring you an online report tomorrow, while in Friday's Gazette, we will bring you all the latest news and report the fallout of this week's shock changes at the club.
