DIMITAR Berbatov came back to haunt his old club to seal an impressive away win for Fulham.

The Bulgarian bagged the only goal of the game seven minutes after the break to continue his hot scoring streak and fire the Whites back into the top 10.

Spurs made most of the early running, but they were restricted to a handful of half chances.

Gareth Bale's header was cleared off the line by Sascha Riether, while at the other end, Hugo Loris denied Bryan Ruiz just before the break after spilling Berbatov's drive.

Bale tested Mark Schwarzer from long range after the interval, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 52 minutes.

Ashkan Dejagah sent Riether clear down the right, and his low cross was slotted home by Berbatov.

It was almost 2-0 minutes later, with Brede Hangeland's header going just the wrong side of the post from Giorgos Karagounis' corner.

Spurs threw on Jermain Defoe as they tried desperately to find a way back into the game.

The substitute almost equalised in the 70 th minute, only for Schwarzer to turn away his effort.

Dejagah had the chance to wrap up victory for Fulham, but he failed to hit the target with his header after Ruiz had hung the ball up at the back stick.

Schwarzer came to the visitors' rescue again late on, this time denying Defoe from point-blank range after he was picked out by Bale.

But Fulham held on for victory to move back into the top 10.
