Brentford are working closely with officials at Accrington Stanley to ensure there is no repeat of last season's farcical late postponement.

Hundreds of fans made a fruitless 450-mile round trip to the Fraser Eagle Stadium in January when the game was called off at the last minute because of a waterlogged pitch.

The club had given assurances on the eve of the match that the game would go ahead because plastic sheeting was protecting the surface. Brentford were furious that an earlier decision was not taken to call the game off.

Heavy snow and frost in Lancashire is putting this year's match in doubt as well, but Accrington say they will do their best to call the game off earlier if it appears the pitch will not recover in time and are planning a Friday pitch inspection.

Bees fans are being urged to check the game is still on before setting out for the Lancashire town.
