Florian Jozefzoon opened his Brentford account with a well-taken finish in the Bees' 1-1 draw at Barnsley but the hero was goalkeeper Jack Bonham.

The west Londoners had trailed thanks to Marley Watkins' fine strike after he intercepted Harlee Dean's clearance and suffered another setback when Lasse Vibe was taken off injured.

But the Dutchman raced onto a ball forward from Jota to calmly dink the ball over Adam Davies to equalise.

The Spaniard, though, saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Davies after Angus MacDonald's hand ball from Sergi Canos' shot. Surprisingly, referee Robert Jones opted not to book or dismiss the defender for the infringement.

Jack Bonham, named in the side with Dan Bentley rested much to the surprise of Brentford fans, produced a fantastic saves to keep the Bees on level terms as the hosts pushed for a winner.

The much-maligned stopper made great saves from Watkins, Tom Bradshaw but his save from Matty James was the pick of the bunch.

Below are five talking points to emerge from the contest.

Bonham justified selection

Brentford's game with Barnsley, as far as Championship promotion and relegation is concerned, has nothing riding on it. Both sides, along with Sheffield United, are confirmed competitors for the 2017/18 season.

Bees fans would never forgive Dean Smith if he played anything but his strongest team against QPR or Fulham.

As things stand, the final game of the season against Blackburn could have something riding on the result for the visitors.

If you're going to give others a game, then Barnsley is the game to do it. If Rovers are relegated then further changes could be made.

Bonham started nervously but grew in confidence as the game went on, making a string of fine saves in the second half.

The goalkeeper has had many doubters, justifiably so after Oxford, but he was able to prove that he can step up if Dan Bentley is sent off or injured.

Jozefzoon opens his account

Florian Jozefzoon gets stuck in

Florian Jozefzoon finally scored his first Brentford goal and it was a cool finish after a wonderful ball through from Jota.

He coolly chipped the ball over Adam Davies to equalise after Marley Watkins' opener and it would be a relief to the Dutchman.

It was also the first time the forward completed 90 minutes in a Brentford shirt and the first time in over a year for any club.

End of an era?

Alan McCormack tackles Matej Vydra

Alan McCormack suffered a groin injury straight after coming on at Oakwell on Saturday.

That could end the midfielder's season and he is unlikely to be awarded a new contract.

It'd be a sad end to a fine stalwart for the club and leave Harlee Dean, Alan Judge, Josh Clarke and Nico Yennaris as the only senior players from the promotion winning season in 2014.

Bigger tests await

Ian Holloway at Ashton Gate

As mentioned above, the contest at Oakwell was a dead rubber for both the Bees and Barnsley and the first half action summed up that fact.

However, there are more important contests awaiting the west Londoners.

The first of which is next weekend when Brentford welcome Ian Holloway's QPR to Griffin Park on Saturday and they will want to silence a vocal critic of the club.

The following weekend presents a chance to deal serious damage to Fulham's play-off hopes when they visit Craven Cottage.

No hope for Hoff?

Wycombe Wanderers FC (white) v Brentford FC (blue), Pre season friendly, Adams Park, High Wycombe, Bucks. Wycombe Wanderers FC Aaron Pierre and Brentford FC Philipp Hofmann

Philipp Hofmann was on the bench at Oakwell yesterday but didn't get on the pitch, even though Lasse Vibe went off injured.

The official line from Dean Smith was that the German was not fit enough to last 60 minutes. If that's the case then what's the point of him being in the squad when Justin Shaibu was also available?

Hofmann doesn't seem to suit Brentford's style of play and it seems to be time to say goodbye at the end of the season.
