John Akinde never sets himself goal-scoring targets and is taking his career a goal at a time despite netting his eighth goal of the season against Crawley Town.
Akinde was a constant threat at The Hive and calmly converted his penalty kick, sending the keeper the wrong way in the process.
After the game he said: “I never set targets, I just try and get in the areas and take the chances I get so hopefully if the team get a few more goals then so will I and we will see where it takes me.”
Barnet’s front man admitted that his side were in need of a win after a poor run of results and after Barnet threw away a two goal lead against Yeovil the week before, Akinde praised Barnet’s determination to recover and claim all three points against Crawley.
He said: “I feel like we needed one after the last few weeks but we are happy to get the win.
“The game before I felt we should have won we’ve let two goals slip with a two goal lead and you can’t really do that today we showed great character to come back and win the game after doing it again.
“It was sort of deja vu but we showed great character to get the two goals we needed and win the game.”
