Barnet striker Michael Gash was upbeat despite damaging his cruciate ligament, which will rule him out for the season.

Gash said that the injury that is set to keep him out for the remainder of the season was 'devastating to hear' but vowed to return stronger than ever.

The former Kidderminster man has only been at the club for 18 months but was quick to heap praise on everyone who had been supportive during a troubled time for the frontman.

He wrote on Twitter: “With the support and help of the gaffer, teammates, staff and chairman and everyone else at the club that I have already received, I can only start this process with a positive and determined attitude to comeback stronger than ever.”

Barnet sit sixth in League Two after an impressive opening few games that saw them beat Accrington Stanley 2-0 following an opening day draw at Cambridge United.

Manager Martin Allen said: “We’ve had some bad news and Michael Gash is going to be out for a long time. It’s a very serious cruciate knee ligament injury.

"He has been an outstanding player for me here at Barnet and I’m sure that all the supporters will feel the same. He is an iconic figure here at The Hive and he doesn’t always get the plaudits that he deserves. Not only is he a good footballer, he is a really nice person and is great to have in the dressing room.”
