Barnet are relishing their FA Cup tie with Blackpool as the squad prepare to test themselves against League One opponents.

The Bees are in fine domestic form going into the match after a 2-0 win over Exeter last Saturday extended their unbeaten run and made it three wins in four matches.

Coach Gary Waddock has experienced the magic of the FA Cup first hand as he played for QPR in the 1982 final.

Blackpool are currently struggling in League One and sit 20th in the table but Waddock believes the Tangerines will provide a stern test for Barnet.

He told Bees Player: “The FA Cup is always special so it’s a game that we are looking forward to.

“Blackpool are a league higher than us and this competition is very high on our list of priorities.

“It’s going to be tough as they’re in League One so it is going to be a difficult game.

“Everybody is looking forward to setting their sights and comparing ourselves to a League One side.

Up for the cup: Striker John Akinde

“As soon as the draw has been made you are looking forward to that fixture. Fortunately for us we are at home.

“You want to get into the next round of the competition as it gives a nice feel and buzz around the place.

“I was fortunate enough to play in the FA Cup final in 82 against Tottenham and it went to a replay, so I’d like to think I’ve played in two FA Cup finals!”

John Akinde is likely to lead the line again for Barnet and the striker is determined to test himself against superior defenders.

Akinde has scored six so far this season and is determined to prove he can do it in the Football League after netting 29 goals as the Bees were promoted from the conference last year.

He said: “It’s a special cup. Everyone wants to go as far as they can and play a big team.

“It’s always good to test yourselves against better opponents.”
